Maimonides and the Idols of the Mind

Maimonides gave a new meaning to the old Jewish idea of the negation of idolatry. Prof. Moshe Halbertal (Jerusalem) will explore the unique views of Maimonides on the nature of idolatry and the problem it poses to the religious political and ethical life. Since idolatry is among other things a prohibition on ways of representing God the lecture will analyze Maimonides original understanding of the limits of representation.
