InSight

4 days of close "reading" of films, pictures and dreams

The 6th Festival of Jewish Texts & Ideas “InSight” will take place in Voskresenskoye Country Club near Moscow on December 5-8, 2013. Its thematic focus will be the in-depth study, “close reading” of non-verbal texts – films, paintings and dreams.

The aim of the Festival is to expand the practice of “slow reading” inspired by traditional Jewish textual study methods (e.g. midrash) to classical works of cinema, painting, and also to dreams as the subject of psychological analysis, insofar all of them have a semiotic nature and presuppose interpretation and commentary.

Each of the 75 participants from Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities will be able to choose one of the four parallel tracks: “Cinema”, “Painting” and “Psychology”. The program of the Festival includes lectures and workshops by scholars from Russia and Israel, as well as evening cultural events (concerts, cinema screenings, round-table discussions).
