Gertrud Pickhan graduated from Universities of Munster, Vienna and Hamburg. Since 1985 - research fellow and professor of history at Universities of Hamburg, Leipzig, Dresden and Zurich. Since 2003 - professor of Eastern European History at Freie Universität Berlin. Author of books and articles on Eastern Eoropean, German and Jewish history, head of the research project "Osteuropäisch-jüdische Migranten im Berlin der 1920/30er Jahre".
