James Kugel

James L. Kugel is chair of the Institute for the History of the Jewish Bible at Bar Ilan University in Israel and the Harry M. Starr Professor Emeritus of Classical and Modern Hebrew Literature at Harvard University.
James Kugel is the author and editor of 16 books and numerous articles on the Bible and its early commentators, focusing on the Second Temple period. In 2001, his book, "The Bible As It Was" (1997, Harvard University Press) won the Grawemeyer Award in religion.
In 2007 James Kugel's book "How to Read the Bible" was given the Jewish Book of the Year Award.
